MEDITATION

When I was 19 a friend gave me a book called "Some sayings of the Buddha", a book of the fundamental teachings of Buddhism. To this day I still have that book. It is one of the few rare items ( including myself ) that has survived my journey thus far, and a treasured item it is indeed. as it was this book that introduced me to Eastern Philosophy and meditation. Along the way I have delved into Buddhism, Zen, Taoism and recently Confucianism. There is something most valuable for the western mind waiting in Eastern thought and vice-versa I'm sure. More than anything though, the practice of meditation is a particularly powerful tool in one's personal quest of integrity and self-realization. It is only when you can be completely honest with yourself that you come into your full potential, or power.
YOGA

It was around the same time that I discovered Eastern philosophies that I picked up a Yoga book and commenced this wonderful pastime. There are a few things that I can say most definitely have saved my life in one way or another, Music being the all pervasive cure all, retreat and affirmation of being. Tai Chi being also, being a pastime of peace, strength and adaptability. Then Yoga. Yoga is like oiling the joints in your body, mind, heart and soul. Diligent practice of Yoga will bring positive results immediately, in the short term and on a deeper level in the long term. This, in my estimation is one of the keys to health and longevity, as with Tai-Chi and Meditation. Yoga and Meditation share teachings of various breathing techniques that may act as both a sedative or a stimulant. Daily practice of these along with stretching the body and loosening the joints take one beyond the preconceptive trap of ageism into a timeless zone where intelligence is balanced with instinct.
